Morning Style

It's official! Fall is here, and that means jackets are making their way out of storage! Today I decided to rock the leather biker jacket, but since I was wearing a skirt, I wanted to tone it down with some more feminine touches! My Chloe + Isabel jewelry worked perfectly! Here are the pieces I chose:

PEARL + CRYSTAL DROPS LONG NECKLACE

PEARL + CRYSTAL FLORAL FILIGREE EARRINGS

PAVÉ NORTH SOUTH RING

This Fall I've been totally in love with denim shirts! It's a fun twist on a classic button up, and lends a cool Fall feeling to any brightly colored skirt or pants. Make sure you dress it up for work with some of these fabulous styles from Chloe + Isabel!

Shop Your Closet

If you're anything like me you pore over the pages of fashion magazines, wishing you had a wardrobe that reflected those fabulously glossy pages. I usually get sucked in to a shopping spree that ends with an empty purse and an overflowing closet. And yet, every morning I have nothing to wear. It's the plight of fashionistas everywhere. I had to put a stop to it (for the sake of my checkbook and my closet)

So I started shopping my closet for the latest fashions. As I browsed through the pages of the latest fashion magazine, as usual, I tagged any outfits/ trends that caught my eye. Then I went back through, and before I booted up the computer to try to recreate that amazing outfit on page 49 I thought "Can I recreate this with clothes I already have?" Sure enough, I already had those black skinny pants that have been in for several years now. Do I really need this season's take on the cardigan, or will last year's have the same general idea? Before long I had 3-4 new outfits put together and several more that I could create by buying just a few trendy items (this fall's bright fuschia, a pair of 70's inspired trousers) I was shocked! Is it really possible to be trendy and thrifty at the same time?!

I challenge you all to grab your favorite fall fashion magazine, sit down, and give it a try! You might just discover that your "go-to" fall outfit is already in your closet!

Fall Layers

The air has started to get crisper lately, and reluctantly I'm trading in my tank tops and sandals for cardigans and boots. However, it's still not officially Fall yet, and while the mornings are chilly, it's often warm in the afternoons. This makes it difficult to know how to dress every morning. That's why I'm a huge advocate of layers, especially since they're so trendy right now! The problem is layering up without bulking up. I love this article on Instyle.com! So rather than re-invent the heel, I'm just going to send you over to check it out!

Coming for Fall- Hippie

Designers are loosening up for this fall. The trend tends toward the undone and easy. It's just the slightest infusion of hippie-style, updated for 2009. Some things to look for are long skirts, vests, loose and drapey dresses, and even a touch of lace.

Scarves- The "it" accessory.

I had a question about what the deal with scarves was, especially in the summer time. The truth is that it's a super casual way to glam up an outfit. It gives that "off-duty model" look in an instant. As you can see above, Jessica Alba proves that it can be worn with almost any outfit. The easiest way to create this look is to fold a long scarf in half, wrap it around your neck, and pull the ends through. I find that a thinner cotton is great in the summer, but silk and cashmere are always classic choices too. Another way to wear it is to just wrap it haphazardly around the neck. It's supposed to be casual, so don't worry about being too uptight.

And just a little shout out to my boys, the scarf is also a hot trend for you. It can be tucked in to a jacket for a super-glam look, wear it with a sweater for a preppy look, or just throw it on with a t-shirt and jeans for an easy, fun outfit.
One final thought. American Apparel has a great "circle scarf" basically it's a scarf sewn into a circle, like a scarf necklace, that you can twist into any fabulous shape you choose. Yet another great way to rock the scarf!
